Reg Upsher

15/03/2022 - Latest News

It is with great sadness to announce that Club Chairman Reg Upsher passed away yesterday evening the 14th March. Our sincere condolences are with his family at this difficult time.
It is no exaggeration to say that CAPS would not be the successful club it is today without the vast contribution Reg made to the club over a period spanning some 60yrs having first joined the CAPS Committee in 1961.
He served the club in many roles including, President, Chairman, Fishery Officer and Estates Officer and although a keen match angler, having represented CAPS in national championships, during his reign of guiding the club he ensured that the club continued to cater for all branches of the sport we love.
In the early eighties, Reg, along with his friend Peter Catt as joint fishery officers were instrumental in changing the way the club approached fishery management and It was this driving force that ultimately resulted in the CAPS acquisition and construction of our own water at Olivers. A great legacy.
In the mid eighties Reg was honoured with life membership and some 40 years later, when not in the best of health, he was still chairing monthly committee meetings and chaired the latest AGM. A true club stalwart!
I know that he was pleased that in our centenary year in 2021 we were able put in place a record of the history of the club as he was conscious that we should not forget so many people who had, and continue, to give great service to the society. Of those people Reg will surely go down as one of its greatest servants.
Reg you will be missed.
