Houchins front lake opens

We are planning to reopen Houchins Front Lake on Sunday 6th December. The Back Lake will remain closed until further notice.
To help the resolve the problems we have had with the Back Lake the club have taken the following actions.
The water level of the Back lake has been reduced by pumping it into the Front Lake, this is for two reasons. The first is to raise the level of the Front Lake which will help to improve the quality of the stock, and the second was to reduce the level of the Back Lake to enable it to be electro fished. This was completed on 23rd November 2009 and 32 carp between 6lb & 24lb where removed. After spending time in a holding tank at a fishery management company, where they were checked and treated for any ailments, they have been re-homed in Bradwell. 5 further carp that where removed in a previous netting have been transferred to Houchins Front Lake along with 1 cat fish.
Work to improve the condition of the Back lake will continue over the Winter with a view to reopening it when we can.
There is strictly NO FISHING in the Back Lake while we endeavor to rectify the ongoing problems. This is also for safety reasons as the water is very low and the banks are very steep and slippery. Any member found fishing in the back lake will be reported to the committee.
