***Houchins Update 12/10***
11/10/09

We turned the aerators off for one day and night last week, the oxygen level fell back down to low 60% so the aerators have been turned back on. We are investigating what we can do to help the lake constantly maintain a oxygen level over 70% which is the minimum requirement for a healthy water.

The water will remain closed until further notice.

2/10

The Genni's have been removed and the aerators are running from a mains supply from one of the farm buildings, Thanks to Lord Dixon-Smith for allowing us to do this.
The oxygen level has continued to clime with it now in the upper 70%, but the water will still remain closed till we are sure it can sustain survivable oxygen levels.

27/9

The situation at Houchins has continued to improve, the oxygen level is now 59% which is due to the hard work put in by the head bailiff, the fishery officer and several other committee members. This has averted a major fish kill, we have lost a small number of silvers and one Carp of around 15lb. (as of today).

The water will remain closed until further notice.

22/9/09

The situation at Houchins  has improved over the last couple of days, with the oxygen content still bad at only 27% but this is much better than it was (2%). We have done a full water quality test which has not highlighted anything, all readings being normal. The water will remain closed for the next month at the least.

The club would like to thank Wayne Ebner for his prompt action in contacting the fishery office when he noticed the problem developing, without Wayne calling us the situation could have been a lot worse. Thanks mate.
