3 Para at West Mersea update

On 15th October the club supported 3 Para, part of 16 Air Assault Brigade based in Colchester, in their efforts to raise funds for their charity The Afghan Trust. The event was also used to help raise awareness of this charity, which supports the soldiers of the Parachute Regiment who have been injured while on tour in Afghanistan, it also financially assist the families of those soldiers who did not return.
Our Car Park at West Mersea, with the kind consent of the owner, was used as the base for the 60 soldiers taking part in the 60 mile (100k) march. It provided a area for 3-20 minute rest periods along with food, drink and facilities for a change of socks. Of the 60 men taking part 54 finished and 6 had to drop out due to injury. A similar event is being planned to take place in November and again we anticipate that the facility will be made available to them.
Money is still coming in so the amount raised is not know yet, but we are pleased to confirm that a donation was made by CAPS.
